In an effort to improve the protection on Indonesian Ship Crew / Fishermen who work in Taiwan fishing vessels, particularly those operating outside the territory of Taiwan, the Representative of IETO Taipei, Mr. Harmen Sembiring, accompanied by the Head of Labor Sector - Sri Setiawati, Head of Administration – Luther Palimbong, and Head sub Division of Protocol and Consular Affairshas met with the Director General of Fisheries, Council of Agriculture in meeting Room - Office of the Director General of Fisheries on January 17th, 2012. The meeting was conducted as a follow-up of the Indonesia and Taiwan agreement in the Joint Working Group (JWG)Employment in 2011. One of these is the agreement in the JWG was to create the MoU between Indonesia and Taiwan specifically for fishermen / ship crew who worked on the Taiwan flagged ship.

Kusnadi, a crew working in the Yilan area, has gone through an accidents that resulted in a dismemberment of he’s right thumb. Since the incident took place on the ship, which was in the middle of the ocean, medical treatment could not be carried out and the use of anti-biotic treatment was available, which were given by the captain of the ship.

Representative of IETO-Taipei, Mr. Harmen Sembiring, accompanied by Head of Labor, Mrs. Sri Setiawati and Head of Administration, Mr. Luther Palimbong, has received a delegation from MENT (Migrant Empowerment Network in Taiwan) in IETO’s meeting room on January 11th,2012. The delegation, comprised of Taiwan’s NGOs, has been conducting activities in helping Foreign Workers who have predicaments in Taiwan.Visits were led by HMISC (Hsinchu Catholic Diocese Migrants and Immigrants Service Centre).

On January 9th, 2012, the Indonesia Economic and Trade Office in Taipei (IETO-Taipei) had held a signing event for the Employment Contract Extension on Local Staff IETO 2012. The event which took place in the afternoon at IETO’s Function Room, and has been attended by Home Staff and Local Staff of IETO-Taipei.
